I try not to judge a book by it's cover - or title, but I am human. Sometimes this judgement takes shape in whether or not I download a book, even when it is free. My tastes in books are fairly eclectic. I can enjoy a science fiction novel just as much as a classic. I do have favorite genres of course and may tend to be less critical of editing errors in a book that I really enjoyed the storyline. I'm not sure if this is a human error or due to a faulty memory. I try to note when there are serious or frequent errors but sometimes I get so enthralled in the plot that I forget all about them.
I didn't like it.
I will qualify this with whether my dislike was due to holes in the plot, serious and frequent editing errors, problems with continuity, or maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea and will suggest that fans of similar genres or that author may enjoy it much more than I personally did. You couldn't pay me to read this book again and I probably wouldn't have finished it if I weren't so stubborn and hopeful that there will eventually be a point to reading it.
It was OK.
This often is one of those cup of tea things, where it just didn't suit my taste. Again, I usually try to explain why it received such a low rating from me, but sometimes for no apparent reason I just cannot get into a story. As the description says, it was OK, but I probably would not read it again.
Books generally start with a 3 star rating and either work their way down due to errors or rise above mediocrity. Some stay right in the middle. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it, I might read it again.
I loved it.
The plot was riveting and well thought out. The characters were well developed. The editing errors were either nonexistent, few and far between or I was so absorbed in the story that I forgot about them by the time I finished the book. I probably would read it again.
This book was amazing!
I have recommended it to friends and family and they have enjoyed it as well. Most likely, I had a hard time setting this book down. I don't give a lot of 5 star reviews, but when I do, you can bet the book deserved it. I will be reading this book again or even several times.
OMG you gotta read this!
The PYOL rating is one of the highest honors that I can bestow upon a book. Basically it is a warning, primarily to my family. They'll need to make their own dinner, find their own socks, arrange for other transportation ... pretty much to Plan Your Own Life because short of a house fire, not much is going to tear me away from this book. Even then I would bring the book along with me. I need something to do while I wait for fire rescue, right? I look forward to reading this book over and over again.
