I don't read a whole lot of spooky stories any more. I still enjoy an occasional Stephen King book from time to time, but I've gotten jumpy in my old age and just don't have the nerves for it anymore. This could be because I usually read at night with just the one little lamp lit. I'm too cheap to turn on more than that so it is pretty dark while I'm reading. However, this book was GOOD.
Zach Kalusky started a Ghostbuster type group to help finance his tuition to finish his PhD. He pitched it to a local cable network and the show did well enough in the first season that the network has decided to run a Halloween special where they investigate the most haunted building in the area, Rosewood Asylum.
I enjoyed the characters so much that I found myself hoping that there was a sequel. I read through this, pretty much in one sitting, pausing only to forage for food, calls from mother nature, and a couple of ill-timed texts from my oldest that sent me to the ceiling like a cat when my phone jingled during one of the spookier parts.
The storyline is overflowing with spirits, good and evil, suspense, plot twists, and even some humor. Some subplots were a little predictable, I had figured out Evelyn's secret long before it was revealed, but still very enjoyable and definitely deserves a rating of PYOL.
According the the author info in the back of the book, Stephen Prosapio is working on making this a series. I would definitely be interested in reading more from him. Ghosts of Rosewood Asylum was a random monthly pick in March, and this right here is the main reasons I download the free books from amazon instead of just sticking to buying books from authors I already know that I enjoy. Sometimes, I find a new author that is a gem.
