Beyond Doorways by Casey Fry Genres: Suspense, Horror |
This book is a collection of short stories where Fry shows a remarkable talent for building up suspense and drawing it out until you can feel a shiver creeping up your spine. A wonderful introduction to Casey Fry's writing which does an incredible job of enticing readers to experience more of her books. Errors were few and far between and hardly distracting at all.
Each story delves into the world of monsters and things that go bump in the night. The first two stories give two different scenarios with the infamous closet monster. This monster has terrorized millions of children and even influenced a Pixar movie. The third story deals with the evil within ... literally. The last two stories explore what might happen if some mythological beings really did exist.
This book is perfect for a weekend read. That's one thing that I love about collections of short stories. I can usually easily squeeze in a short story between playing referee between squabbling kids, answering requests for information on missing items, or remind the kids not to slam the door, run in and out, throw things in the house ... OK maybe not an entire short story, but they definitely fit into my weekend schedule a LOT better than an entire novel.
